Development History

Carrying forward centuries-old craftsmanship, savoring the timeless elegance of tea.

Puan Red Tea originates from Puan County in Guizhou Province and traces its roots back to the millennia-old "Funiang Tea." Its traditional tea-making methods date back to the Ming Dynasty, boasting a history of over 600 years. Puan County is proudly known as the "Home of Ancient Tea Trees," the "Cradle of Tea Culture," one of the "Top Ten Charming Tea Towns in China," and the permanent site of the first-ever harvest of "Guizhou Green Tea." The county also holds a 2-million-year-old fossil of a four-ball ancient tea seed, while its unique geographical conditions have laid a solid foundation for the development of Puan Red Tea.

Tea production in Puan can be traced back to the Yelang period or even earlier. The ancestors of the Buyei ethnic minority, who have lived here for generations, were the Pu people, a tea-selecting ethnic group. Legend has it that their female spiritual leader "Fu Niang" was the first to discover tea and used it to treat the tribe. The traditions of planting, picking, processing, and using tea have continued to this day, thriving for thousands of years. As early as the 1950s and 1960s, Puan began large-scale tea planting, and by the 1980s, it had established ten-thousand-mu tea plantations, becoming one of Guizhou's earlier black tea export bases.

Zhao Kezhi, then Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, and Chen Min'er, then Governor of Guizhou Province, conducted poverty alleviation research in Puan County. After tasting "Fu Niang Tea" and finding its quality and taste excellent, they proposed naming it "Puan Red." Just as Yunnan has Pu'er, Guizhou has Puan, thus the name "Puan Red" was born.

"Puan Red" has successively received honors such as the National Quality Supervision and Inspection Administration's Geographical Indication Product and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce's Geographical Indication Certification Trademark. With the increasing brand awareness of Puan Red and continuous support from the Ministry of Public Security, Puan Red Group, the leading enterprise in Puan County's tea industry, has established Puan Red operation centers in first-tier domestic cities such as Beijing, Harbin, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hohhot, and abroad in Singapore, realizing the dream of Puan Red spreading nationwide and fragrant worldwide.

With coordination and support from the Ministry of Public Security, Puan Red has been included as one of Guizhou's main promoted tea brands under the "Three Greens, Two Reds, One Smudge" initiative. It has been successively selected as a "National Gift," "Police Gift," and a foreign affairs gift by the National Development and Reform Commission, and ranked among the "Top 50 Well-Known Chinese Tea Brands" by Hurun Report. The brand value has reached 3.2 billion yuan, laying the foundation for a top domestic black tea brand. Currently, Puan Red Group will focus on the "Puan Red" brand, centering on the main theme of "Three Tea Coordination," guided by the Ministry of Public Security-supported "Ten-Thousand-Mu Tea Garden," serving as the pioneer and main force in industrial revitalization.
